BRAIN MAPS
Think about the brain maps that Craig drew in the novel. Is there a map of a city, town, or place that best represents you? I want you guys to decide on a map that best represents who you are and create a brain map of your own! You can draw these from hand, cut out and glue things from magazines or photographs, or even print and cut out different areas or maps from googlemaps. Be sure to fill your maps with elements that best represent who YOU are. After you have finished your brain maps, pick 3 areas on your map to write about. For each of the three areas that you have chosen, I want you to write a paragraph explaining why you chose to put this on your brain map. When writing about these areas, ask yourselves the following questions:

![]() BITSTRIPS
Think about a scene in the book that stood out to you. Design the characters and situation for this scene and re-create it using bitstrips. Include the dialogue that was used in your chosen scene. You can also add some of your own dialogue, if you wish to do so. ![]() CRAIG'S PHONE
Think about the times that Craig communicated with his friends. A lot of times, especially when in the hospital, Craig would communicate with his friends via phone. I want you to do something for Craig that his friends did not do; give him advice. For this activity I want you to get with your shoulder partners in class. One of you will pretend to be Craig, while the other will pretend to be one of Craig's friends from the book (whichever one of Craig's friends that you choose to be). Decide between the two of you which person will play the role of Craig, and which will play the role of Craig's friend. Once this has been decided, follow the directions below:
While you guys are pretending to be these characters, respond to each other in the form of text messages. Once these messages are written out, type them up and hand them in. |
![]() SUICIDE PREVENTION
Suicide is a major theme within this book and something that many people struggle with. I want you to raise awareness about this issue. create a Glogster or a PSA, using Window's Movie Maker or imovie, about suicide prevention. If you need an example of what this would look like using wither a Glogster or a PSA, below are some links: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=opOJJ4_gUpI http://www.glogster.com/ayup/suicide-prevention/g-6lmdtau8kjcatieahb572a0 As this is a writing assignment, I do want to see more than just pictures and music. I am also looking for words, sentences, and facts about suicide, as well as the ways that we can help those that struggle with it. I have also included pages that have facts about suicide, depression, and their statistics.
